Lower Dolpo

Lower Dolpo can be accessed from the airstrip in Jufal, Dolpa district. You need to fly from Nepalgunj to Jufal. The trekking takes from the airstrip to Shey Phoksundo Lake and from there return to the airport again. From the airstrip, you fly back to Nepalgunj. There is a permit fee of US dollar 10 per person per week for trekking in the Lower Dolpo. Besides there is one time entry fee of rupees 1,000 (US dollar 15) into the Shey Phoksundo National Park. You need to arrange for the food and accommodation. It takes around two weeks to complete the trek.

Upper Dolpo

Upper Dolpo is the trekking from Jumla to Jomsom or vice-versa. You can fly to Jumla from Nepalgunj or to Jomsom from Pokhara. You can start the trek from Jumla and trek to Jomsom or vice-versa. After completing the trek you will fly out of Jomsom to Pokhara or take the reverse of Jomsom trek route. You will pass the Shey Phoksundo lake and cross several passes while trekking in this route. This is restricted area and only agency organized groups are permitted. The fee for permit is US dollar 500 per person for the first 10 days and US dollar  50 per person per day for additional days.

Helambu Trek

Helambu Trek starts from Sundarijal and ends at the same place. Or you could end the trek in Melamchi Pul Bazaar if you take an alternative route from Tarke Gyang. You need to ride on a bus or taxi to Sundarijal from Kathmandu which takes about half an hour. The route takes 8 days to complete. The maximum elevation of 3640 meters is reached during the trek. The best season to trek is from October to April although trekking is done in other seasons as well. There are a lot of tea houses accommodation along the route. The speciality of this trekking route is the rich cultural heritage and the hospitality of the Sherpa people who inhabit in the Helambu region.

Langtang Trek

Langtang Trek starts from Syaburbesi and ends here as well. It takes around 7 or 8 days to complete this trek. To reach Syabrubesi, you need to ride for 10 hours on a bus from Kathmandu. You can take an alternative trekking route from Dhunche, which comes before Syabrubesi on a bus ride from Kathmandu, via Gosainkunda and join the Helambu trek at Tharepati. This alternative trek takes five days to complete. Or you can simply take the trek to Gosainkunda from Dhunche, which takes around 4 days. The maximum elevation reached in the main Langtang trek is 3870 meters. The best season to trek in the Langtang region is October to May. There are a lot of teahouses along the route for accommodation. You need to pay rupees 1,000 (around US dollar 15) as the national park entry fee.

Jomsom Trek

Jomsom Trek starts from Naya Pul which takes around 2 hours on a bus from Pokhara. It takes 9 days to complete the trek and the maximum elevation of 3800 meters is during the trek. The best season to trek is October to May. After reaching Muktinath, you need to trek back to Jomsom where the trekking ends. From Jomsom, you can fly to Pokhara or simply trace back the route that you took while trekking to Jomsom. There are plenty of tea houses along the route for food and accommodation. You need to pay rupees 2,000 (around US dollar 25) as the entry fee to the Annapurna Conservation Area.

Annapurna Circuit Trek

Annapurna Circuit Trek starts from Besisahar in Lamjung. There are direct bus from Kathmandu (6 hours), Narayanghat and Pokhara (five hours). It takes around 16 to 18 days to complete the trekking in this route. The Thorung La pass at an elevation of 5416 meters is the highest point during the trekking. October to November is the best season for the trekking. The route is very inhospitable between mid December to mid March due to snow in the Thorung La pass. The trek ends in either Naya Pul, where the Jomsom trekking starts, or in Beni. Good precautions need to be taken doing this trek as bad weather during any time of the year can put the trekkers and porters at risk. There are tea houses along the route for food and accommodation. But during the peak season they are generally overcrowded. You need to pay rupees 2,000 (around US dollar 30) as the entry fee to the Annapurna Conservation Area.

Annapurna Sanctuary Trek

Annapurna Sanctuary Trek starts from Phedi which is one and half hours drive from Pokhara on the way to Baglung. You can also take an alternative route from Ghorepani in the Jomsom and Annapurna Circuit trek to Ghandruk in the Annapurna Sanctuary trek. It takes 10 to 14 days to complete the trekking and the maximum elevation of 4095 meters is reached during the trekking. The best season to travel is October to November. Annapurna Base Camp is the farthest that you can reach and you need to return the same route to Phedi where the trek ends. For food and accommodation, there are several tea houses along the route which operate during the season. There are risks of avalanches from Doban to Machhapurchhare Base Camp. We advise you to enquire about the trail conditions from ACAP office in Chhomrong. You need to pay rupees 2,000 (around US dollar 30) as the entry fee to the Annapurna Conservation Area.

Makalu Base Camp

Makalu Base Camp is 2 to 3 weeks trekking from Hile up the Arun Valley. You can reach Hile from Kathmandu on a bus in about 17 hours. You need to pay rupees 1000 (US dollar 15) as the entry fee to the Makalu Barun National Park. You need to arrange for food and accommodation for this route.

Kanchenjunga

Kanchenjunga is restricted to trekking by agency organized groups. You need to fly to Taplejung to start the trek or alternatively trek from Basantpur- three hours drive from Hile- to Taplejung. You will trek to either Pangpema or the South Base Camp and the Yalung Glacier. You will need two to four weeks to trek this route. You need to arrange for food an accommodation along the way. You will need a permit to trek (US dollar 10 per person per week) and another one time US dollar 15 to enter the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area.

Everest Base Camp Trek

Everest Base Camp Trek takes about 15 or 21 days depending on where you start your trek. if you start the trek from Jiri (you will need to take 10 hours bus ride from Kathmandu), the entire trek will take you 21 days and if you fly in to Lukla from Kathmandu (cost US dollar 126), the duration of the trek will be 15 days. The maximum elevation you can reach is 5545 meters- the Kala Pathhar. You can also reach the Everest Base Camp from Gorak Shep, which takes around 3 hours for one way. The best season fro trekking is October to December but there are plenty of trekkers in March to May and other seasons as well. April and May are popular for mountaineering expeditions to the Mount Everest and Choyu. You can arrange for tea house trekking in the Everest Base Camp Trek. You will find food and lodgings at the tea houses. If you prefer, you can also arrange for a organized trek. You can hire porters and guides from Lukla as per your needs. You need to pay rupees 1,000 (around US dollar 15) as the national park entry fee.
